چکیده

Screening with methyl-alpha-d-glucoside was an efficient procedure for enrichment of mutants lacking the glucose transport system and of the pleiotropic mutants lacking the phosphoenolpyruvate-dependent phosphotransferase system in Vibrio parahaemolyticus.

The role of the phosphoenolpyruvate phosphotransferase system in the transport of N-acetyl-D-glucosamine by Escherichia coli.

The properties of an N-acetyl-d-glucosamine-transport system have been studied by following the intracellular accumulation of methyl 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-alpha-d-[1-(14)C]glucoside by Escherichia coli. The same analogue was used to assay phosphoenolpyruvate phosphotransferase activity of toluene-treated cells. Transport and phosphorylation are induced by growth on d-glucosamine or N-acetyl-d-glu...

Repression of @Galactosidase Synthesis by Glucose in Phosphotransferase Mutants of Escherichia coli

Glucose and a-methyl glucoside repress P-galactosidase synthesis in wild type Escherichia coli and in mutant strains deficient in Enzyme I or in the heat-stable protein of the phosphoenolpyruvate-phosphotransferase system. Although the mutants do not grow on glucose and accumulate only a small amount of a-methyl glucoside, they are more sensitive to repression by these compounds than are their ...

Regulation of carbohydrate transport activities in Salmonella typhimurium: use of the phosphoglycerate transport system to energize solute uptake.

The phosphoglycerate transport system was employed to supply energy-depleted, lysozyme-treated Salmonella typhimurium cells with a continuous intracellular source of phosphoenolpyruvate. When the cells had been induced to high levels of the phosphoglycerate transport system, a low extracellular concentration of phosphoenolpyruvate (0.1 mM) half maximally stimulated uptake of methyl alpha-glucos...

Regulation of sugar transport via the multiple sugar metabolism operon of Streptococcus mutans by the phosphoenolpyruvate phosphotransferase system.

In this report, we provide evidence that the transport of sugars in Streptococcus mutans via the multiple sugar metabolism system is regulated by the phosphoenolpyruvate phosphotransferase system. A ptsI-defective mutant (DC10), when grown on the multiple sugar metabolism system substrate raffinose, exhibited reduced growth, transport, and glycolytic activity with raffinose relative to the pare...

Involvement of the glucose enzymes II of the sugar phosphotransferase system in the regulation of adenylate cyclase by glucose in Escherichia coli.

The nature of the interaction of glucose with toluene-treated cells of Escherichia coli leading to inhibition of adenylate cyclase was examined by the use of analogues. Those analogues with variations of the substituents about carbon atoms 1 or 2 (e.g. alpha-methylglucoside or 2-deoxyglucose) are inhibitory, and they are also substrates of the phosphoenolpyruvate-dependent sugar phosphotransfer...
